The first Mexican woman to earn a PhD in engineering from Rice University, Karen has won numerous awards, including being named the 2025 Higher Education Professional of the Year by Sloan Scholars, the 2019 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics,and Engineering Mentoring, and 2015 Engineer of the Year by Great Minds in STEM. The 90-minute presentation will be followed by a discussion with Andrews faculty.</p> <p> The ASA is the oldest and largest organization for Christians in science in the United States. Ecklund is a professor of sociology at Rice University and author of several books on scientists&rsquo; attitudes toward faith as well as religious persons' attitudes towards science.
